Old does not necessarily mean
slow – something else may be happening. This page was made on a 400 MhZ
Celeron, with 256 Megs of Ram , running , right now, Word, Frontpage, Adobe
Photoshop, 10 sessions of Foxfire browser , a firewall, an anti virus
application and an FTP session. The operating system is Win XP professional.
The machine, while not “fast” hasn’t gotten in our way. While we have far
faster computers in our office, they were not needed for this project.
If your old machine is slow, or
if your new one is too, call us for a check up. We suggest, in the
meantime, looking to see what is running in the background; check for
spyware, and viruses , and, if you are on the
web ( you are if you are reading this ) making sure you haven’t been
hijacked. Common hijacks involve turning your computer into a spam email
machine.
You may benefit from an upgrade.
Adding memory, for example, can be a great help in speeding up a
machine – but if you are doing nothing new, and the computer is slower than
it was, it’s very likely software you neither want nor need is running in
the background.
